Woodchester Mansion, Gloucestershire
Date: Friday 17th May 2019
Standing forlorn in a Gloucestershire valley, Woodchester mansion has to be one of our creepiest venues to date.
Woodchester Mansion, is an impressive Gothic mansion that used to be known as Spring Park. During the middle of construction, the building was abandoned. Although it appears complete from the outside, the floors, plaster and rooms are missing on the inside.
The Mansion is said to be home to some of the scariest ghosts in the United Kingdom with paranormal activity frequently reported amongst visitors, staff and other paranormal groups.
A dark and intimidating male energy is said to roam Woodchesters cellar, waiting to prey on any females who dare to enter his space.
This terrifying mansion really does have all of the attributes to make it the perfect ghost hunting location – Could you last all night inside?
Woodchester Mansion replaced a Georgian country house called Spring Park, which was built at the beginning of the 17th Century and named because of the many springs in the valley. The estate has much earlier origins which evidence of occupation dating back to pre Roman times.
The building itself was commission by William Leigh a freemason he had bought the previous building Spring Park and decided to demolish it and build Woodchester Mansion over its foundations. Williams cash ran out before the building was finished and died in 1873. It remained in the Leigh family until 1938 until the estate was sold. In the 1940’s American and Canadian forces were stationed here until the end of the war. It now belongs to the Woodchester Trust who are trying to return it to its original state.
Reported Paranormal Activity;
Woodchester Mansion is a hotbed for paranormal activity and has given the team some of their most memorable investigations over the past six years.
Visitors have reported seeing the apparition of a very tall male who likes to walk the corridors around the mansions Chapel. A very dark and menacing male energy is often picked up on down in Woodchesters network of Cellars. It is said that he is responsible for making female visitors feel so terrified that they need to leave the building.
Loud bangs and clear footsteps have also been reported numerous times along the mansions top floor corridor.
People have reported hearing a woman singing an Irish folk song in the scullery and also seeing the ghost of a young girl running up and down the stairs of the mansion’s first floor.
But perhaps the most impressive activity ever witnessed by the team at Woodchester was that of a ‘dancing padlock’. During a break, the team and a handful of guests were outside the back entrance when they all heard a banging noise. As they looked in through the door to investigate, a heavy duty padlock was seen to be violently shaking as if someone had hold of it but there was no one to be seen.
